Keep Britain Tidy is asking schools, voluntary groups and the public at large to assist with its biggest-ever survey of the brands that litter our streets.
It is hoping pupils in England’s 15,000 eco-schools and those involved with youth groups, community organisations and anyone else who is passionate about litter will take part in this massive survey of England’s villages, towns and cities.
All it involves is doing a simple one-hour survey and tidy-up of an area, picking up the litter and making a note on a survey form of the brands on the packaging – anything from a fast food box to a chocolate bar wrapper, a soft drink bottle to a crisp packet.
The aim of the study is to provide snapshot of the most littered brands across the country, to identify the most littered brands by area and to use the study as a way of engaging with brands to reduce the amount of litter and encourage the public to dispose of their litter responsibly.
Last year’s survey revealed that the top ten most littered brands in England were
1. McDonald’s
2. Greggs
3. Wrigleys
4. Mars Incorporated
5. Cadbury
6. Coca Cola
7. Nestle
8. Richmond (Imperial Tobacco)
9. Starbucks
10. Unbranded fish & chips/pizza/kebab
