Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky McDonald in the famous soap, will see a street designed for the 21st century when she presides over the official opening of three new show homes at the public launch of “Infusion” in Moss Side tomorrow.
The development is the first part of the £17m regeneration of the Bowes Street Area of Moss Side and the celebrity launch event will focus on Moss Side’s vibrant history and its contribution to the cultural life of Manchester.
Local film-maker Karen Gabay will also make a guest appearance and her film, Memories of Moss Side and Hulme, will be playing at the opening. Author Joe Pemberton, who grew up in Moss Side in the 1960s, and musician Barry Adamson, whose recent works include his debut album “Moss Side Story”, will also be present.
Most of the redevelopment consists of 64 Victorian terraced houses on Hartington Street, Cowesby Street, Rosebery Street and Beresford Street. These are being carefully renovated and converted in to new, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom eco-rated homes.
There are also seven new-build, eco-rated 4-bedroom properties, built to Sustainable Homes Code Level 4, on Bowes Street, creating a contemporary frontage to the development.
The scheme has been designed to offer homes at affordable prices with a bespoke 70/30 equity scheme having been developed.
The project is funded by the Homes and Communities Agency and Manchester City Council in partnership with Miller Homes and GB Building Solutions.
The launch events start from 10.30 am outside the Infusion Marketing Suite on Beresford Street. After the opening the show homes and marketing suite will be open Thursdays to Mondays, 10.30am to 5.30 pm.
