Jennie McAlpine, AKA Fiz from Coronation Street met the teenagers and staff from the Teenage Cancer Trust unit at the Christie Hospital in Withington.
Jennie was joined by Nichols plc, the company behind Vimto. The visit marked the start of an exciting new partnership between Nichols and Teenage Cancer Trust.
With the help of Nichols plc, the Teenage Cancer Trust will be able to support the work of a young activities co-ordinator in the North West.
The co-ordinator organises fun activities and days out for the young people on the unit through the charity’s Teens to Twenties programme. Amongst the activities provided, patients could be taken for a meal out or get involved in a DJing workshop at the unit.
The Teenage Cancer Trust will also use the donation to provide the latest technology for the unit including computer equipment, MP3 players and games consoles.
Neil Gibson, Head of Marketing at Nichols, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support the Teenage Cancer Trust and all the fantastic work that they do”.
“Through their work they have created an environment in their units for the young people being treated that is positive and upbeat, which is so important for their recovery. The young people living with cancer with the support of the Teenage Cancer Trust are a real inspiration and I am delighted that we are able to help them in any way.”
Teenage Cancer Trust supporter Jennie McAlpine said: “It has been fantastic to meet all the kids at the Christie and see the incredible work the Teenage Cancer Trust are doing every day. It is great to hear that the teenagers get a chance to have fun even during difficult times and that the support from Nichols will help this to continue.”
