Friend’s of Longford Park to unveil new climbing boulder

The Friends of Longford Park are hosting a launch event between 1pm and 4pm this Saturday, 18 June to ‘unveil’ the park’s latest exciting addition, a fantastic climbing boulder.

The Mayor of Trafford Cllr Jane Baugh will perform the official opening ceremony at the start of the afternoon’s celebrations.

Costing £60,000 in total and installed with help from Trafford Council, the boulder has been introduced after the Friends secured a Big Lottery grant through the Groundwork UK managed Community Spaces scheme.

Next week’s launch event will have something for all the family and promises to be a hugely popular afternoon of entertainment.

As well as qualified climbing instructors running climbing classes, there will be circus skills workshops and cycling demonstrations by Longford Park based Trafford Wheelers all ability cycling group. Green-fingered gardeners will be able to take advantage of the plant swap stall and Stretford Brass Band will be on hand to entertain the crowds with their impeccable musical skills.

Chair of the Longford Park Friends group, Bob Dunbar, said: “We are very grateful to the Groundwork run Community Spaces Big Lottery fund for their support which has allowed us to provide this very impressive, challenging new facility, which will further enhance Longford Park for all our users.”

Executive Councillor John Reilly said: “I am thrilled to see this new facility opening in Longford Park. The range of attractions this park offers is extending and improving before our eyes. This demonstrates just what can be achieved when dedicated community groups such as the Friends of Longford Park and the Council work together within positive partnerships.”
